Splitting your 10 mg pen vs. buying a 5 mg pen

Splitting a KwikPen into smaller doses isn't officially recommended. The manufacturer's instructions describe one full labelled dose per injection, and splitting falls outside the licensed use of the medication. Some patients do this to save money, but you should only do so with guidance from your prescriber — accuracy at small click counts, sterility between injections and storage all become your responsibility.

Important. This calculator is for information only and is not medical advice. It applies to the multi-dose Mounjaro KwikPen (UK). Always follow the dose your prescriber has given you and read the patient information leaflet supplied with your pen. One full labelled dose of any KwikPen is delivered with 60 clicks (0.6 ml).

On splitting doses. Eli Lilly and the manufacturer's instructions describe one full labelled dose per injection. Dialling partial doses to split a higher-strength pen falls outside that licensed use and is not officially recommended. Speak to your prescriber before relying on the savings comparison above.

How it works

KwikPen clicks, explained

The UK multi-dose Mounjaro KwikPen delivers one full labelled dose with 60 clicks (0.6 ml). Each pen holds 4 full labelled doses (2.4 ml in total).

That means a 10 mg pen can be dialled to deliver a 5 mg dose in 30 clicks, giving you 8 injections per pen — often cheaper than buying a 5 mg pen labelled for that dose. This calculator shows the maths.
